Buena Vista

Buena Vista

This photo was taken from Buena Vista Park, looking towards the Golden Gate Panhandle (the line of trees in the foreground). St. Ignatius Church, part of the University of San Francisco, is on the left, and the tip of the Golden Gate Bridge is just visible on the right. The Marin Headlands lie in the background.

Looking North from Mt. Davidson

Looking North from Mt. Davidson

Mt. Davidson is the highest natural point in the city of San Francisco and is located close to the geographical center of the city. This view is looking north. Laguna Honda hospital is clearly visible at the far right and the Golden Gate is in the distance, with the Marin Headlands and Mt. Tamalpais beyond.

The Bay Bridge is clearly visible on the right side of the photo.

Storm Clouds over Pacific Heights

Storm Clouds over Pacific Heights

This photograph was taken in 2008, from the window of Aileen's room at City Center. The odd structure near the middle that resembles a laundry machine agitator is St. Mary's Cathedral, seat of the Catholic diocese in S.F. Just beyond that is Japantown and Pacific Heights.

St Nicholas Cathedral

St Nicholas Cathedral

St. Nicholas is a Russian Orthodox Cathedral on the corner of 15th and Church streets in the Castro neighborhood of San Francisco. The word "Cathedral" might conjure up a misleading image; the church is quite small and unassuming. I liked the doors, and the icon above them.

Flowering Vines on Painted Lady

Flowering Vines on Painted Lady

This house is one of the finest examples of the quintessential San Francisco Victorian, and is located on Waller Street in the Lower Haight/Duboce Triangle area. It's just down the street from one of my favorite cafes, and my favorite Thai restaurant in the city.

Townhouses on Linden Street

Townhouses on Linden Street

The Hayes Valley neighborhood in San Francisco has probably changed more in the past 15 years than any other neighborhood in the city, and is now one of San Francisco's trendiest and most sought-after areas. Walking to the center of Hayes Valley from Zen Center, I would typically vary my route from time to time. One of my favorite was walking down Linden Street, past this apartment building.

This impressive bas-relief mural is on a wall in the Castro District.
